After week one, changes are typically made to the configuration of the divisions. The poorer performers of the 2008-9 season, based on their composite winning percentages, were announced as cut from the pro league as starters. Here is that list in no particular order:

Greg Cote
The NFL Edge
Fan IQ
Pete Prisco
Dennis Dillon
Carl Kotala

Some sources dry up as was the case with Terry Bannon.

As week two arrived, it was clear that back-ups would be needed. The policy was to go to that "cut" list and redeploy sources from that list as "assignments" for week 2. After the 2nd week, the 2009 sample of 32 NFL games is large enough so that recent performance becomes the criteria to make assignments from.

These assigned members must take their assignments. As assigned members, they will be allowed only one opportunity to challenge the starter, following these guidelines:

1. The starter did not qualify for the Madden's Cup Playoffs. The Madden's Cup Playoff berths are usually determined after the close of the Sunday afternoon games on week 9, but a specific date will be announced around week 6.

2. The back-up performer has a composite winning percentage at least 10 percentage points better than the starter.
Example: Starter is at .500 and the back-up is at .600.
If the 10 percent requirement was not reached by ANY assigned member at the time mentioned above, then the top three performers will be given a chance as long as the member's composite is greater than that of the starter.

Anyone who missed submitting more than 1 pick for week two will be given a back-up through assignment unless otherwise indicated.

Here is the status of the participants that needed a back-up for week two:

Stoll: DeShazier is being exended an offer. Anyone may express an interest in this spot as a back-up but the offer must be given priority until it expires on September 23rd.

Chase: Cote assigned as back-up
Dorwin: Dillon assigned as back-up
Babineau (early games only): Paul Smith assigned as back-up

The starter's name will still appear in the standings. The wins and losses, however, will reflect a team effort. If there comes a time where the back-up person becomes the starter, then that person's name will appear.
